Ready, aim, fire!

More than 20 Ruapehu College 6th Formers had their first taste of clay-bird shooting at the Waimarino Gun Club's Makarunui range last week. Each week a 6th Former from the College has to organise an activity for the P.E. group of 20-30 students and each activity has to be a different one throughout the year. This helps students relate each other and gives |«m an opportunity to develop any potential organising ability they have. It also brings the College into contact with local sporting bodies and other recreational activities available to students, said P.E. instructor Don Allomes. Last Wednesday it was

the turn of Ashley Berry from Horopito. He contacted the Waimarino Gun Club and made all the arrangements for his P.E. Group to take part in this instructional shoot with members of the Gun Club. The Gun Club provided the shotguns and seven club members were on hand to give assistance and advice. The first step was to receive an explanation on firearm safety from Snow Brannigan before taking up their positions on the range. For many of the group it was their first shoot and there was plenty of cheering when a break was made. Future activities in the pipeline for the P.E. group include skiing and 10-pin bowling.
