These activities included: Rooms 1 and 2 held a wake-a-thon and a 40 hour famine ($302); Room 5 held a working bee ($16.45); Room 6 undertook a variety of odd jobs ($141.50); Room 7 organised a 'silver trail' ($42.20); standards 1 and 2 ran a 'shop' dispensing comics, fudge, cakes with other assorted goodies and conducted a dolls fashion parade ($217). The Junior Department held a folk-dancing display for parents which raised $ 1 03 . Raetihi Raetihi Primary School principal, Ken Holmes, is delighted with the response from parents, staff and pupils of the school to the Telethon appeal. "It really was a tremendous show", he said last week after more than $1,200 had been collected from the two main fundraising events which were
held at the school . . . one a 'mini-Telethon', the other a 'spell-a-thon'. The mini-telethon was held in the school hall on Thursday 23 June and was a great success with everyone — including the principal who performed a haka — participating in the fun. The morning's proceedings were very ably compered by Paul Ferors, a teacher at the school, and the decor and artwork was provided by another teacher at the School Mrs Carol Dean. Two other members of staff — Misses Schollum and Dallison — performed the 'Dance of the Seven Tablecloths' and deputy principal Paddy Potaka sung a 'biographical song' about other members of the staff. Raetihi 's Mayor, the Rev. Bob Peck, dropped in and spoke to the assembled throng on the theme of this year's Telethon. "We were thrilled to g^jk all this money from tlfl^ -single day's activities," saia Ken Holmes.
Ohakune Ohakune Primary School collected a total of $279 in small change from a variation on the copper trail theme. The outlines of two large figures — one adult and one child — had been drawn in chalk on the floor of the assembly hall and into these shapes were placed coins of all denominations ranging from 1 cent pieces to 50 cents with the aim of completely filling them. Ruapehu College permitted students to wear mufti instead of uniform on one day of the week preceding Telethon and charged each student 50 cents for the privilege. Not quite $250 was raised but the school council decided to make it up to that figure anyway. The Ohakune Fire Brigade and Ruapehu Lions combined in a house-to-house appeal using one of the brigade' s fire appliances to carry their team of collectors on Sunday 26 June. The donations collected «e combined with the ilts of a similar exercise
in Raetihi to make up a grand total of $2,280 for the two towns. The Presbyterian Church held a concert in the Ohakune Church hall on the Saturday evening during Telethon. Only 30 or so people attended but it was "a real fun-night involvingfamilies" said Rev. KerryEnright, with everyone hav-ing to perform for the entertainment of others and a total of $420 was collected. National Park Dave Macrae, principal of National Park Primary School, reports that a total of $46.35 was raised from a number of events which included a copper trail, a Star Wars movie, a guesstimate and a disco. Rangataua Rangataua Primary School reached their target of $200 from donations and a 375km bike-a-thon before the Telethon programme concluded last Sunday evening. More money from pledges is still expected to come in
Orautoha Orautoha School principal Don Niven, reports that this 17-pupil school raised $129.25 from a bring-and-buy day which involved both children and parents. In addition to the organisations mentioned
above the Bank of New Zealand reports that many individuals have been coming into both the Ohakune and Raetihi branches of the bank to honour their pledges. No tally of these individual pledges is kept at
the banks since it is a voluntary contribution system, but both managers report that money is still coming in. By the time all monies have been received the total Waimarino contribution could be close to $20,000.
