SKI REPORT
The Turoa Skifield was open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the first and second chairlifts ' operating as well as the Valley beginners tow. It was possible to ski the second chair but the first chair was used for access only. Chains were required on the Ohakune Mountain Road on each of the three days - from the 12km mark on Friday and Saturday and from 14kms on Sunday. According to the Ohakune Ranger Station, 374 peopj^fc used the Mountain Road Friday, 1674 on Saturday and 1056 on Sunday. Whakapapa Skifield was operating its first and second chairlifts mainly for sightseeing and access but some of the keener skiers managed to find enough snow for some rock-strewn r u n s . Skiing conditions were marginal according to National Park Headquarters but the Happy Valley beginners tows were operating. On Saturday 630 people used the Bruce Road and Sunday's count was about 750. Chains were required on Saturday but not on Sunday.
