Local mill closes ...temporarily

^B^Kighteen staff at Timmo's Mill in Raetihi reeeived notice last Friday week that the yard was closing doyvn temporarily until there was an upturn in the market. From Auckland, one of Winstone directors, Mr E. Gallimore, said that the present market for timber was very depressed and the plan was to put Timmos Mill 'into mothballs' until demand revived. Mr Gallimore couldn't forecast when this will be

but said he was pleased to have been able to offer all staff at Timmos alternative employment, with Winstone Afforestation, locally in the meantime. Timmo's plant would be maintained in mothballs so that it could re commence operations when the market recovered. The yard would not be closing down immediately said Mr Gallimore, — it would be a gradual winding down operation as existing contracts were fulfilled.
