General Finance Half Marathon
On Sunday 12 June the annual General Finance Half Marathon (21.1 km) was held in Taumarunui, attracting over 300 runners. Local runners performed very well against the more fancied teams from as far afield as Wellington and Auckland. The registered mens section was won by the evergreen New Plymouth runner, Gerald Draristski, in the excellent time of 1 hour 6 minutes 53 seconds. Taking 4th and 5th positions respectively were two Waiouru competitors, Ian Jackson and Tony Benjamin. In the womens registered section it was Tony's wife Maree who finished in second position, just a few seconds behind the winner. Competing in the unregistered section (runners not registered with the N.Z.A.A.A.) Ohakune runners made a clean sweep with Maureen Neumann taking out the women' s section and her husband Warwick winning the mens and finishing a creditable 8th over all. continued on page 16
