New developments on Whakapapa

With this year's improvements complete, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd have developed an international class ski resort with a variety of facilities and terrain unique in New Zealand. As you stand at the Top 'O' Bruce there is an overwhelming impression of shear enormity, the field stretches upwards and westwards almost as far as the eye can see. Whakapapa Skifield, developed by Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd now offers three double chairs, one single chair, six T-Bars, three platter lifts and four rope tows making it the largest single ski area in New Zealand. The gentle slopes and

rope tows on Hut Flat and at the base of the National Downhill area are easy to master. Beginners will appreciate the two new platter lifts at the base of the Pinnacles, the single platter at the top of the second chair and the Waterfall T-Bar. Intermediate and advanced skiers will find the scope varied and challenging. The undulating slopes of the National Downhill area with its two high capacity T-bar lifts provides easy 'cruising'. For something a little more challenging the Te Heu Heu Valley or Knoll Ridge will suffice, whilst the Waterfall or Staircase will provide the 'bumps'.
