CRICKET.
Tiie Tatarariki cricket club met the Mangawhare club oa Saturday last, at Mangawhare. l'he s.s. Ethel conveyed the cricketers and others to the ground from the various wayports. The captain of the Mangawhare club. Mir C H. Gould, won the toss and decided to send his men to bat. During the afternoon there were some showers which made the' ball very slippery, and as there was no sawdust on the ground until late, the howlers were at a great disadvantageTlie Mangawhare team made a good stand, making 120 in their first innings. The principal scorers being C. H. Gould 35, Fitzpatrick 26, Lambert 18, Mansil 17, and A. McLean 17 not out. fatarariki opened their innings by T. Elliott and W. Smith batting. W. Smith was soon disposed of for a blob, being stumped by Mansill. T. Elliott did not make the stand he generally does, and was bowled by Gould when he had made 8 runs. It looked liUe an easy win for Mangawhare when they had disposed of 6 wickets for 38, but tilings took a turn when G. Matthews went in, for he in a very short time knocked up a total of 37. not out. The game should prove very interesting, Tatarariki being 61 with six wickets down. The scores are as under : MiiS&iWHAHE—lst Innings, Mansil b Turbot ... ... ... 17 Fitzpatrick st. A team of Queensland cricketers is to visit New Zealand in January next. A proposal has been made in Wellington to put New Zealand clocks back two hours in September, and on again at the end of March in each year so that cricketers and athletes generally may bave"time ot an evening for their sports. This may be a somewhat starting proposal for the colony as a whole but, it is no new thing in our local sawmill townships.
