CRICKET.

AB AT A PUT y. TATARARIKI. The first meeting of these two Clubs this season took place on Saturday afternoon at Te Kopuru. It rained heavily for some time before the game started, and some delay took place, but it was eventually decided to make a start in the rain as it had eased somewhat and would probably not last very long; it rained a little for about an hour and then ceased. Aratapu won the toss and took the field and Elliott and Smith faced the bowling. Elliott soon settled down to steady work and carried his bat right through the innings for 30 runs, made up of 4 twos and the rest singles. Six wickets were down for 12 runs when C. Matthews came in and played good cricket for 14, Seven wickets for 44 and then the end came with the total at 61. Bain had eeased when Aratapu sent French and Slater to the wickets to face Miller and Elliott. French played a careful innings and had broken the bowling pretty much before he was bowled. Marcroft made a good stand for his 19, and with the assistance of Butland, who played very free cricket and scored rapidly, further checked the bowlers. Four wickets for 24, five for 62 and six for 69 and then time was called Araf.apu winning by 8 runs and four wickets. TATABABIKI O. C. Elliott T. not out 30 Smith W. l.b.w.
