EXPORT OF PASSION FRUIT.

A SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT. A recent cable message from London records a gratifying success in connection with, a trial shipment of passion fruit sent on the 24th September by the s.s. Orotava from the New South Wales Department of Agriculture to the AgentGeneral. The shipment, which tot died -.J 20 dozen, was sent in four cases of o 0 dozen each,. packed in a different manner. The fruit in No 1 was dipp- d In the Morris patent mixture and packed in titree bark" No 2 was wrapped in paper and packed in the bark. No 3 was dipped in a preparation af glycerine and borax and packed in the bark. These samples were all sent in cold storage, while the fourth 'packed in the bark was shipped as ordinary cargo, It is considered, from what has been learned, that the experiment proves the feasibility of shipping passion fruit in ordinary packing in cool chambers. The possibilities of this branoh of the fruit export trade are very great. At the present time the passion fruit is practically an unkiu -w 11 luxurv in England, while in the season it can he bought in the open market for 2s and 3s a case. In fact, in the Richmond River district at the present moment this fruit is growing wild. It yields a wonderfully prolific crop, _ and with the chances of a good market at a fair price in England, it is thought that during the next season some developments may be expected.—Star.
