RACES AT MANGAWHARE.
The Northern Wairoa Racing Club’s Summer Meeting was held on the Mamg-a-whare Course on Tuesday and Wednesday. The attendance on the first day was fully five hundred and on the second day about half that number. The Aratapu Brass Band was in attendance on each day and helped to relieve the monotony ®f the intervals between the different events. The steamers Kopuru and Ethel conveyed passengers up from down river settlements, and on the first day both steamers were well patronised. The different events were well contested and very few complaints were heard as to the manner in which they were run. The following were the results : Handicap Hurdle Race. Johnson’s Warwick Ist; Evan’s Blue Ribbon 2nd, Waikato’s Awaroa 3rd. Handicap Hack Race. Whitley’s Dolf Ist, Stanley’s Waikato 2nd, Spiers’ Archie 3rd. Northern Wairoa Cup.
