CRICKET

Very few of our leading cricketers could make it convenient to go to Waipu on December 30th, and the proposed visit of our representatives to that place has had to be postponed in consequence. Some players were evidently not satisfied with our dictum on the l.b.w. round the wicket question, and so applied to other authorities. Some of our readers have probably seen the replies in the ‘ Auckland Siar ’ to queries on the same subject. Our ruling was correct and no new rule has been adopted by the M.C.C. as was thought b\' some local players.

Cricketers evidently believe in the Christmas vacation, and no Association matches have been arranged for tomorrow or the following Saturday. Toka Toka and Tatarariki play a friendly match tomorrow afternoon. The Selection Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association have selected the following team to journey South :—Messrs I, Mills, H. W. Lawson. R. L. Holle, C. C. King (Parnell); J. N. Powke, J. A. Kallender, T. A. Morseby (Gordon) ; R. Neill, J. R. Lundon, A. Jacobs (Auckland); C E MacCormick and W. Stemson (United). The team take their departure for the South on Monday next, Christmas Day. They proceed to Dunedin, where thov meet the Otago representatives on December 29th and 30th. Mr Holle has been elected captain of the team,

As we anticipated, the game last Saturday between Tatarariki and Mangawhare was a close one The howling and fielding of the former team was too good for their opponents who were only able to put np a score of 38 runs in the first innings and 33 for 8 wickets in the second. Miller’s bowling is pretty well known and the analysis shows how successful he was ; Thompson, however, anewman and madehis first appearance locally on Saturday ; he is undoubtedly a clever, cunning howler, and can break from either side with a comparatively fast delivery. There were no double figures on the Mangawhare side. For Tatarariki C. Matthews 16 not out, Rice 11 and Steele 10 were the doubles. Harding and Beale were the most successful of the opposing bowlers. These two Clubs have now each scored a win against the other and the finish will be interesting. MANGAWHARE.
