CORRESPONDENCE
[The editor is not responsible for opinion expressed by correspondents.] (To the Editor.) Sir, -I wish to call the attention of the County Council to the dangerous practice of placing- large drain pipes on the road. It is a practice which at some time or other will certainly result in accident, as horses are very apt to shy when passing- them*. I have been teld that the pipes now lying on the main road to the Kopuru have been the cause si several riders being- thrown off.—-I am, Sir, Trotter. (To the Editor ,) Sir, —I was present at Mr Trounson’s meeting at Aratapu and was deeply grieved that in the heat of election excitement there should have been found men who, not knowing the irreproachable, sterling character of the man before them, endeavoured to make him out as ‘ a screw ’ and an oppressor of working men. I was burning with indignation yet allowed the opportunity of speaking- to pass through backwardness. I was reminded of scenes depicted in the New Testament where the blindly prejudiced mob assailed time after time in unholy ingratitude the kindest and best friend they ever had, in the person of the only'', perfect man that ever lived. I hope, sir, you will give me space for this;, as I feel dissatisfied with myself for having said nothing- in the meeting and I wish to make what little amends I can.—l am, sir, Yours ©to,, T. Cross. (To the Editor.) Sir, —I see u by your last paper that our County Council is thinking ®f going to the C«mrt of Appeal with the Darg-aviffe' River frontage case, I think they should not do so without first consulting- the ratepayers. If the ratepayers will read judge Conolly’s decision they will see that there is nothingfurther to be got. Our Councillors overlook the fast that the Street has river frontage axsd that the public cannot be denied its use. If the Councillors will pay the full costs of Appeal Jput of their own pockets, I suppose the Ratepayers will net object and they can recoup themselves if they succeed out of Mr Harding’s first year’s rent. —Yours etc. .Bush Lawyer.
