The Aratapu Band, under bandmaster Lee took up their stand by the Kauri Company’s store, Aratapu, on Sunday afternoon, and treated the public to a good programme of sacred music. We were agreeably surprised at the excellence of the performance ; it showed very considerable improvement. The Band deserves every encouragement and it is to be hoped the public will rally round them in their approaching concert and thus help them to rie themselves of debt. The liev. J. Haselden read a lecture in All Saints Church on Monday evening on the Life of Christ, It was illustrated by several very excellent pictures and was fully enjoyed by those present. The Church was fairly filled, children being more numerous than others. On Tuesday evening the reverend gentleman appeared in the Public Hall before a moderately good house, and repeated the pictures of the abeve story. He also gave the story of Dicken’s Christmas Carol, illustrated by painted scenes from life models ; and Tennyson’s poem “ Enoch Arden,’ also illustrated. The entertainment was good but too protracted for such an audience. The Quarterly meeting of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association is to be held in the Band of Hope room, Aratapu, on Thursday, October 26th, when the matter of holding a Show will be gone into. The Arapohne people have evinced a lively interest in this Association and some useful ana interesting meetings have been held. They, however, ao not want all the good things to themselves, and though the membership on this side of the river is yet but small they decided to hold their next meeting at Aratapu, when they hope to see a good attendance of settlers from Tatarariki, Bedkill, Kopuru, Aratapu, Mangawhare and Dargaviile.
