DARGAVILLE NOTES .
A newspaper called the ‘ Gumdiggers’ Weekly ’ edited by G> Alderton of Whangarei, is being circulated here. Mr Buckhurst is there stated to be a candidate for the Bay of Islands seat, and it seems probable that the paper has been started on the eve of the election for the purpose of assisting his candidature. A good deal of the matter is simply a reprint from another Whangarei paper. I think the Bay will be able to find a representative without going to Marsden for one. The new organ was used for the first time on Sunday last, Mr F. Matthews officiating at the instrument, both morning and evening, in the place of Miss Dargavilie who was indisposed. The organ, containing sixteen stops, is a very powerful one, and was well and carefully played ; the manipulation of the stops, also the ?iano and forte passages being most marked. 'he voluntaries were well chosen and showed the tone and power of the instrument. The collections at both services were in aid of the organ fund and amounted to £3 12s 4d. With the exception of some 25s the whole cost of the organ, some £45, is now subscribed.
