CORRESPONDENCE
[The editor is not responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I think it a pity that your Arapohue correspondent gives way to writing sensational articles without being sure of the statements he makes. In your last issue he says. I lost my way in trying to walk from Waikiekie to the Wairoa and fainted on the way; any one who knows the Berridges well know they don’t belong to the fainting brigade and are not likely to lose their way. The facts are these ; A young fellow at Waikiekie essayed to put me on a short cut and said if I went to a certain spot.(which I knew well) I could see the Toka'Toka road just below. When I got there, in the heat of the day there was no road to be seen. Knowing tbe lay of the country well, I at once saw that I had to go further to the west, and I had to force my way some miles over very rough bush spurs till I struck the road, or rather track. This gave me two hours extra hard traveliing, and when I got on the track every step was half way to the knees in Baud, and then it rained nearly all day; so you can easily see that the eleven hours I was on the road, was no pleasure trip. When I got to Mr Simpkin’s I was about used up but the fainting was iu your correspondent’s mind only. Hoping your correspondent will be more careful in future.— Yours etc., H. S. Berridge.
