TE KOPURU.
A meeting of the Te Kopuru School Committee was held on Tuesday, when it was reported that the teacher for the Tatarariki school had arrived in the person of Mr TI. Campbell, The furniture and appliances for the same have also arrived and it is expected that the school will very shortly be opened with an average attendance of about 20. The Natiyes are tak-
ing an interest in the school and will send their children to it. The teacher will probably board at Mr McDougal’s. Mr Whital rer, master of the Kopuru School, sent a list of verry irregular attendants and the Committee decided to at once send warning to the parents interested, for they are determined to enforce all the attendance they can. The famous sewing machine has been sold for £d and the Board is to be asked to subsidise the amount for the purchase of books for the Kopuru School library. Much sympathy is felt here for Mr Matthews in the loss of his valuable property by fire. The alarm soon spread in our settlement and several men ran down to render what assistance they could. The glare was so str-ong that persons were able to read here at midnight. Our Junior footballers have been training for Saturday’s match and are in good, condition, but they have not had much opportunity for practicing together.
