A meeting of gumdiggers has been called for Saturday afternoon to hear the reports •f the various committeemen appointed to four the country and gather signatures for • petition to the House against the influx of Aliens. These gentlemen have returned from their journeys well pleased with the manner in which they were received, and probably a little wiser than when they started. The meeting will also consider what steps should be taken by diggers in ▼iew of the coming election. The Bachelor’s Ball takes place on Friday •rening and the young people are looking forward to it with great interest. Everything possible has been done to make the Affair a complete success. R.M. COURT. A sitting of the Resident Magistrates Court was held here on Tuesday, R. S. Bush Esq , R.M,, presiding. There was very little business done. One case for payment of County rates was struck out, defendant being out of the county. Tilton v. Wairoa Jockey Club for recovery of £9 10s totalisator dividend. Plaintiff was non-suited with costs. Affiliation case— Emily Leggett v. J. Buchanan. An order had previously been made on the? defendant for payment ef 4s per week monthly to tbe Clerk of the Court from September. By the voluntary consent of the plaintiff the R.M. was now asked to commute the former order, and make an order under Section 14 of the Destitute Persons Act 1877 upon defendant for £2O, th« same having been mutually arranged between the parties. Mr E. C. Beale appeared for defendant and Mr McLeod for plaintiff. The order was made as asked for.
