SHEEP INSPECTION

Mr F. Shaw, sheep inspector, had several cases in the Auckland Police Court this week. Most of the defendants were charged with having sheep infected with lice. C. E. Bischoff pleaded guilty to this charge, and upon being fined the iovvest penalty of 20s and costs 7s, said he would pay it under protest. In the case of C. Upsom, who was similarly charged, and was represented by Mr Russell, who said he must plead guilty, but explained that the defendant was merely trustee in the estate, a fine of 20s and costs 7s was imposed. J. C. Rutherford was also charged with a similar breach of the Act Mr W. Th*rne appeared oil bis behalf, and pleaded guilty, at the same time stating that the lice were in such an early stage that it almost required a microscope to see them. Defendant was fined 20s and costs 7s. Thomas \V. Reed was fined a like amount for a similar offence. He explained that his sheep were dipped in April, and he thought they were allright.
