Mr J. Stubbs announces in another col umn that he is about to take over the tailoring and outfitting business now carried on by Mr Torrington at Aratapu Mr. Stubbs is well known in the district and will no doubt be well supported, especially if he advertises well. The Mascotte Company will repeat, by special request, ‘Satanella’ in the Kopuru Hall, on August 4lb. An additional scene from the same opera will be presented on this occasion, also the absuidity ‘School, Fifty Years Ago.” The charge for admission is one shilling and sixpence. Mr C. Hales returned to Aratapu on Thursday evening with his bride. His bachelor friends, of No. 11 Bride Street have presented him with a very handsome bedside rug , Mr C Hopkins announces a clearance sale for ten days only at his branch establishment at Aratapu . His full advertisement gives all information . Miss C. H. Hough am’s status as a certificafed teacher, in the new list issued, is D 2 ; iVliss A. M. Devin, late of Mareretu, is classed E 2 ; Mr J. McNaughton, once a pupil teacher at Aratapu is D 3 ; and Mr T. D. Rice of Redhill is E 3. All these have advanced a step on their former classification. Still further progress is being made in Aratapu. Mr Geo. Davidson is putting up a house for Mr Stall worthy and in spite of mud and wet is making things move. A meeting of gumdiggers is called for Saturday next, in the Dargaville Hall, at 2 p.m to protest against the continued influx of Austrians. One gentleman, we are informed, has promised £5 towards the expences. The resolutions carried are to be wired to Mr Jackson Palmer as well as to Mr Houston, and rumour further says that if Hie latter will support them then Mr Dargaville will not oppose him at the general elections. At the last election Mr Houston was promised the support of our friend but something tnrned up, and it became necessary for Mr Dargaville to come out as the gumdiggers’ champion. They did not want him however. Probably history will repeat itself.
