PARLIAMENTARY.
At a Caucus of the Liberal party iu the House of Representatives at Wellington it was unanimously decided that the Hon. R.. Seddon should retain the position of Premier ; aud the line of future action laid out by Ministers was approved of. Sir Robert Stout does not desire office. Mr Cadman resigned his position as Native Minister, but will continue to assist his party as a private member. The resignation is due to the undecided nature of the verdict by the jury in the Libel case. Messrs Houston, R. Thompson and Palmer have arranged to interview the Premier in reference to a metalled road from Auckland as far as Mongonni. Native lands legislation is to take precedence this session and such lands within five miles of a road are to be made rateable. The Electoral Bill and Female Franchise will also form part of the Government policy bills. The Members say that the Liberal Caucus was the most satisfactory ever held. There were expressions of great confidence in Mr Seddon as Premier. The Minister for Education says the Government cannot see its way to assist country libraries.
