MR. EDMONDS THROWN FROM A HORSE.

Mr S. Edmonds, accountant to the Kauri Company, met with a severe accident yesterday morning at Aratapu. He was intending to go to Kopuru and had just mounted Mr G. Webb’s horse, Rita, when the animal made off across the sawdust, towards the Anglican Church. On entering the Church road Mr Edmonds endeavoured to turn the horse but it went across towards the opposite fence, and not being prepared for the intervening drain fell headlong into it. Mr Edmonds was thrown violently into the drain and fell on his head and shoulder info thp wgteiv Mr Perkins, also of the K.T.C,

was wdth Mr Edmonds and helped him outlie found that the head was badly cut and bleeding profusely, so took him into the nearest house (Mr Rutland's) where some friends attended to him till Hr Norton arrived. The flesh was torn from about a fourth part of the skull, —from the top of head to right ear and from two other places on crown to back of bead ; the bone being laid bare. The doctor, who said he had seldom if ever seen such a severe scalp wound, carefully dressed the head, and put fourteen stitches in. The patient bore his suffering very well and is no danger unless erysipelas sets in. Mr Edmonds is uncertain whether the horse kicked him, or whether his head was injured by falling on some hard substance in the drain. We think the latter was most probably the case.
