ARAPOHUE.
[from ottr CWN cobkespon dest]. It is with regret I record the removal by death of Mrs S. Powell, under very painful circumstances. She had just giveu birth to her sixth child when, taking seriously ill, the doctor was called in and it was reported that she was much better. On Saturday, becoming worse, Dr. Welham was again sent for, and on seeing her gave no hope of recovery. Mrs Powell was the eldest daughter of Mr Simpkin and only in her thirty-third year, and is thus cut off in the prime of life leaving six young children motherless Heedless to say very great sympathy- is felt for them and the bereaved husband. The funeral took place on Sunday at three o’clook, and though the notice was very short and the road extremely bad a large number of both sexes attended. Mr H. T. Smith, in the absence of M r Blight, read the service at the grave. There is little to record as owing to the terrible state of the weather and roads there is nothing in the way of public gatherings. Mr Lee, of Aratapu, intends taking Mr Higgott’s place in the shoemaking business.
