On Monday evening several persons arrived at Aratapu by the p.s. Osprey and on landing made enquiries for a Mr J. H. Meredith who lias been advertising in the Auckland papers as follows ; —“ Having bought a considerable quantity of Rich Gum Land, 1 am prepared to allow a limited number of Diggers on the Fields at a reasonable royalty. Good winter field. Married men preferred. Houses provided for the diggers at low rental,—Apply to J. H, Meredith, Hedhill, Northern Wairoa; or' Lessee, Aratapu Post Office.” The only information that could be given was that he recently made his exit from these parts in company with Constable Scott. Luckily for those who had been misled there are those who though they promise less would do more for those desirous of making a start on the gumfields.
