JAY GOULD IN GLORY.

If Mr Jav Gould left no charitable bequests to hand down his name to posterity, he took care that his last resting-place should bo one that for ages to come should excite attention and the query as to who it was whose body it contained. His tomb cost 80,000 dels., and has been built of granite upon a model based on the famous Mai,son Garde at Nimes. It is a Greek temple, erected on three tiers of steps, with columns surrounding and supporting the roof, which is of granite slabs 32ft. long, and each weighing 15 tons. The entrance is through bronze doors, panelled and ornamented with dragons’ heads, cherubs, and vines. The interior is lined with enormous slabs of highly polished light—pink and cream-coloured marble, the light being admitted through a stained-glass window which represents a choir of angels. It contains resting accommodation for twenty bodies, and therein have been placed the mortal remains which are not less lonely there than when they confined one of the most restless aud solitary spirits the world lias known.
