Auckland, Friday, noon. Home Rule Agitation. Lord Salisbury has arrived at Belfast where he addressed a public meeting on the political situation. He received numerous addresses on arrival at Belfast. In reply he said their ancestors in time of James I had induced Scotch emigrants to settle in Ulster, and they must now keep faith with their descendants and protect the people who objected to Home Rule. He received an ovation at the public meeting in Ulster Hall, Belfast from an immense audience. He said Gladstone undertook a great responsibility if he attempted to force his crazy scheme of Horae Rule on Ulster, An Ugly Rumour, It is reported that the Queen has rejected the list of Birthday honours proposed by Gladstone. At the head of the list was Earl Spencer whom it was suggested to create a Marquis. Ship on FireA fire broke out on board the fourmasted ship Port Jackson, lying at Cential wharf, Sydney. Most of the ’tween deck cargo has been removed The ship is burning fiercely, almost fore and aft. If the flames reach the quantity of in» flammable goods and spirits included in the cargo nothing will save the ship. Fire steam fire engines arc pouring a hundred thousand gallons of water per hour into the vessel, The cargo is valued at £50,000, The fire on board the Port Jackson is extinguished ; the after hold has been flooded to a depth of 14 feet.
