MARERETU.
[from otjk own correspondent] Tbe ordinary meeting of tbe Mareretu Liberal Association was held in tbe schoolhouse on Saturday last. There was a good attendance of members. The President, J. MeCarroll Esq., presided. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. A large amount of Correspondence was received. A reply was received from tbe Hon. R. J. Seddon, thanking tbe Association for their invitation to address a Political meeting in Mareretu, and stating that he will be most happy to avail himself of it if time permits. The Rules and By-laws drawn up by the officers were unanimously adopted, and the Secretary was instructed to get the same printed when funds are available, also to purchase a seal for the Association. The Secretary was also instructed to write to R. Thompson Esq., M.H.R., and earnestly beg him to give a political address in Mareretu, and also to convey him. a hearty vote of thanks for his services to the district in the past, also to communicate with the Rev. J. ■J. Mather re giving a political address to tho members of this Association. It was resolved that this Association desires to place on record its deep regret at the loss the Colony has sustained by the decease of the Hon. John Ballance, and that messages of condolence be telegraphed to Mrs Ballance, and to the Hon. R. Seddon. The Secretarj' (Mr Y. Birr) reported that seven new members had been eni’olled since the last rneeting. In accordance with instructions from the last meeting- of the Liberal Association the Secretary has forwarded the following tele-
grams to Mrs Ballance and Hon. R. Seddon. “To Mrs Ballance. The Mareretu Liberal Association prays Mrs Ballance will accept its expression of deep regret and condolence at the loss the Colony has sustained by the death of her illustrious husband.” “To Hon. R, J. Seddo: The Mareretu Liberal Association desires to record its regret and sympathy with the- Government and the House at the loss of their renowned leader Mr Ballance.”
