FOOTBALL.
DARGAVILLE F. C. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Dargaville football club was held in the Northern Wairoa Hotel on Saturday evening when between twenty and thirty persons attended. It was decided to form a Dargaville F. C. to play under the “Wairoa Rugby Union, and the following officers were elected :—Patron, J. M. Dargaville, Esq. ; President, M. Corcoran, Esq ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs N. A. McLeod, J. Brookfield, and W. A. Spiers; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr H. J. Vail ; Captain, J. hteil, Vice-captain, J. Johnston : Delegates to the Union, N. Moros, R. Cordon, and PI. J. Vail. The colours of the Club to he blue and black. The names of thirty-two members were given in. Over thirty players gathered on the Dargaville ground on Saturday and a good practice game was held. To-morrow afternoon the Mangawhare and Dargaville Clubs are to have a preliminary struggle, and we would suggest that the losing Club joins in with the other to form a strong Club with Senior and Junior teams, under the winning Club’s name and colours. The game will commence at 2.00 p.m. sharp aud will take place on Mr N. Moros’ ground at Dargaville. The Mangawhare team will be chosen from the follow-ing,-—Stehr (2), A. Smith, Hewitt, Hope (2), Hume (2). J. Green, J, Baynes, M. Meagher, C. Renner, P. Parore, G. Campbell, J. Virtue, J. E. Shipherd, Hi, Hill Whiu, Ngina, W. Dunn, G. Nield, T. Harkness, and J. Me Ineny. The New Zealand national football colours are fixed to be black jersey with silver fern leaf, black cap with silver monograms, ■white nickers and black stockings.
A good practice match was held on the Aratapu ground last Saturday, with full sides. The two down-river Clubs practised together and some very good form was shown. There was some good passing, but it was not the result of combination ; when the passing game is started the whole team should fall into position for it and not all make for the ball. Amongst spectators there is rather a craze for the passing game ; we hope it will not cause players to forget the fine forward rushes in which Wairoa was last year so infinitely superior to Auckland. The players of all Clubs should turn out in force to-morrow, and a little training would do some of them good, for on the following Saturday the Cup matches begin. Secretaries of Clubs should remember that only those players whose names have been returned to the Union as members by tomorrow at latest can take part in the Cup matches on May 20th. The delegates to the W. R. Union are requested to meet at Aratapu on Wednesday next at 7.30 p.m. The principal business of the meeting will be to consider the apxilication for membership from the Dargaville F.C. and to re-arrange the fixtures so as to include that Club.
