MARERETU.
[From our own Correspondent ] A most successful concert and dance was held in the new school-house on Fiiday last iu aid of raising funds for ploughing and fencing the Mareretu Cemetery. The entertainment _ wjs promoted and carried to a most successful issue by Mr C. H, Jenkins, the trustee of the cemetery. There was a large audience, the adjacent districts being well represented. Mr McCarroll presided and congratulated Mr Jenkins on the excellent arrangements he had made for the entertainment. A lengthy and diversified _ programme was gone through in a highly creditable manner. Ihe following is the programme - song, ‘Sailing,’ Mr G. W. Heslop ; song, ‘ Thy Voice,’ Mrs Howard ; Duett, Jlisses.s Spicks; comic song-, ‘ I took it,’ Mr G. G, Sutherland, encore ‘ Killaloe ;’ song, ‘Jessie’s Dream,’ Miss Ford (Maurigaturoto) ; song, 1 Hard Times,’ Miss McCarroll ; comic song, ‘ Those big Boots of ®urs,’ Mr G. Cartwright; song’, ‘ Save a Suuny Smile for me,’ Mrs Bio (Matakohe) ; song’, ‘ What Shall I Say ?’ Miss Bio ; glee, ‘ I Love the Merry Sunshine,’ Mr 33. Ford and Misse3 Ford (!) ; song, ‘ Thy Face,’ Mrs Bio ; comic song, • The Lost Child, Mr G. G. Sutherland, encoi’e ‘Wedding Bells;’ duett, ‘Tired,’ Miss McCarroll and Miss Hand son ; song, ! Just After the Battle,’ Miss Spick; trio, ‘ Now Bray we for our Country,’ Mr E. Ford and Misses Ford. Mr B. T, Birt proposed a hearty vote of thanks to all the singers who had taken part in the entertainment ; he said many had come at considerable inconvenience to themselves, The siagiug of the National Anthem brought the concert to a close, and the building was cleared for dancing which was kept up with gr-eat zeal till after midnight. A strong branch of the Auckland Liberal Association has been formed at Mareretu, At a general, meeting held last Saturday the following officers were duly elected -President, Mr Jolm McCarroll, seme ; Vice-president, Mr C. H. Jenkins ; Treasurer, Mr F. S. Millingtou ; Secretary, Mr V. A Birt. The officers, in conjunction with Mr T. Billings, were appointed a committee to draw up> rules and by-laws, and to submit the same to a general meeting' The secretary was instructed to write to t.ha Auckland Liberal Association for Acts, etc., also to Mr E. Ford and enquire if he would favour the Associatiou with a political address.
