A SHOOTING ACCIDENT.
Edward Jones, aged 15, son of Mr A. W. Jones of Aratapu went out with a shooting party on Saturday down to the Awaroa Cieek. It seems that Jores and another were moving along on one side of the creek whilst another of the party was on the opposite side. Rushes grew on both sides of the creek so that the parties were not always visible to each other. A duck rose and gave the third party a chance of a shot; he had seen Jones’s companion well clear of the line of fire and thought Jones would be near him, so fired. He soon learned that Jones had been hit aud after running to him called assistance and had him conveyed home to Aratapu a distance of several miles. Dr Norton has been in close attendance on the injured lad who is getting on as well as can be expected. The boy was severely hit on the face ; seme shot entered the back of his tongue aud others were found close to the eyes. As many as thirty shot are said to have struck the lad and he has evidently had a narrow escape. Some time will elapse before he can be about again.
