(To the Editor). Sir,—The letter from Paparoa, in one of your recent issues) calling attention to the mismanagement of our steam service was much needed. Judging from the letter there seems to be good cause for dissatisfaction in the Paparoa district. And when I say that there is general dissatisfaction in the Northern 'Wairoa I only mention what is a well known fact. The passenger traffic is not at all what it should be in regularity or comfort ; the Osprey, of course, is comfortable enough hut she is so irregular, and not a whit better than the old Kina was in the hour of arrival. My chief complaint, however, is in reference to the cargo boat which arrives so regularly every week some time between Thursday evening- and Sunday morning. In order to receive or ship goods by the steamers it is necessary to meet the boats, for the Company are too grasping to appoint agents to receive and take goods for them at the wharves, and on more than one occasion I have seen persons waiting for the steamer with horse and cart from Friday morning till Saturday afternoon. Ever since the opposition ceased the Company has shown little or no consideration for the j nblic, but has caused thorn every inconvenience and bled them at the same time to the utmost limit. It surely is due to the public upon whom they rely for existence that regular times should be fixed for arrivals aud departure of all boats, ami that these times should be well advertised, and adhered to. — I am, Sir, A Sufferer.
