of 6,500 bales, valued at nearly £IOO,OOO. There are now 120,000 more sheep in the Auckland district than there were at the beginning of last season. A return published in the Gazette shows that during the year ended 31st December last, 18,122 persons arrived in the colony, aud 13,164 persons left, leaving a balance of 4,958 in favour of the colony. During 1891 the excess of emigration over immigration was 3,198. Of the arrivals during the year 1892, 2,555 were from the United Kingdom, 7,854 from New South Wales, 5,590 from Victoria, and 1,358 from Tasmania. Of the departures during the same year 1,612 were for the United Kingdom, 6,397 for New South Wales, 3,515 for Victoria, and 711 for Tasmania. Taking the principal ports. Bluff tops the list of arrivals and Auckland of departures. During 1892 58 Chinese arrived and 189 left.
