The New Zea'and Wing of the great Salvation Army has recently published its balance Sheets for the year ended September 30th 1892. The accounts have evidently been ca elully and correctly kept, and all have been duly audited. The amounts received show that the Army has been liberally supported and the expenditure displays rigid economy. Salaries have been paid on such a very moderate scale that we should imagine the Army would find it difficult to defend themselves on a charge of ‘ sweating.’ All the accounts show a small balance in hand, but this we presume is due more to self denial practised than to the abundance of cash received. Undoubtedly the Army is one of our grea'est agencies for good and we trust they may always have faith sufficient to ensure balance sheets as satisfactory as the present. The usual meeting of the Aratapu Band of Hope was held on Tuesday evening, Mr T. Webb, vice-president, in the chair. A fairly good programme was presented to a full house. Mr J, E. Elliott being present, the meeting was taken advantage of to formally hand over to him the gold albert presented by the school children. Three persons signed the pledge at the close of the me ting. The Committee met later and accepted, with thanks for his past services, the resignation of Mr T. French as Secretary. Mr A. Sowter was elected Secretary, and Miss L. Day Assistant Secretary. The Secretary was instructed to procure a .Rochester lamp for the room. The Caledonian Sports are to be hold in the Auckland Domain on Monday next.
