CORRESPONDENCE

[The editor is not responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] (To the Editor.) Sir, —There was a good deal of fault found with the old steamship company when trading in these waters, and a g-ood deal of gusli was indulged in when the Osprey came on to the river. But it seems to me that the present Company is far greedier and parsimonious than its predecessor. Perhaps they think that the possession of such & steamer as the Osprey is euoug-h to cover all their shortcomings, and that all the management necessary is to keep the boats going backwards and forwards without any consideration for the public. The system of (mis) management seems to be—‘ there is no opposition, if the people w ant to travel let them find out the time-table for themselves and they must pay what we ask,’ In the old days the Northern Company did make their time-table known, and ran extra boats at reduced fares to induce people to travel.—-and they benefited by so doing. This season I have heard persons enquiring on every hand as to how the boats are running, and what the holiday fares are, and no one has been able to give the information. Why are there no extra boats and reduced faros advertised ? Is it because they think they can get full fares from all ? If that is the notion I can of my own knowledge assure the Company it is a mistaken one, for without special inducements many will not travel.—l am, Sir, B»Ji§9S»SeT,
