K. T. C. ACCIDENT BENEFIT SOCIETY.

A well attended meeting of the members of the Kauri Timber Company A'cident Benefit Society was held at the Company’s mills, Custom-street, Auckland, last week. Mr T. H. White, manager, presided. He congratulated the members upon the sound financial position of the Society Though the calls upon its funds had during the year been heavy, it still had a balance in hand of £2O. Seventeen members hod met with accidents during the year, and these had duly received their sick pay. Of this num her it was remarkable that only two had occurred in connection with the machinery. This showed that no man was safe no matter what his work wns. The books showed that the Society had 122 members, and he thought that in a mill where 300 hands were employed there should be more than that number willing to subscribe 6d per week. Though the Society had started the year with two long cases of broken legs yet there was a dividend of 10s lOd for each member. The following balance sheet was presented :—To balance from 1891, £2l Is sd; contributions of members, £lO5 2s ; from Savings Bank, 1891, Is lid ; interest, December 1892, £1 8s 5d ; total £127 13s 9d, By accident expenses, £6O 6a 8d; members withdrawn, £3 6s Id ; Secretary and Treasurer, £6 Is 3d * dividend payable to members, £36 6s 4d ; balance, £2l 13s 5d ; total, £127 13s 9d. Liabilities : By dividend payable to members, £36 6s 4d ; salaries, £6 Is 3d ; balance in bank, £2l 13s 5d ; total, £64 Is. As the Society exists only year by year it was necessary to re-form it. This was put to the meeting and carried. The following Committee was then elected :—T. K. White, B. Todd, E. McKinstry, H. Wilson, G, Morris, W. B. Sowden, and T. Gibbs. Messrs Redman and Thomas were elected auditors. Votes of thanks to the Secretary, Mr Todd, the retiring Committee, and the daily press brought the meeting to a close.
