PORT ALBERT.

Growers’ Society took place on Saturday, November 19th, in the Hall, to hear Mr Hanlon, the Government expert sent round to visit the different districts, giving information on the orchards and any other matter that is of interest to fruit growers. There were a good many present, considering the short notice given. "Rev. Gittos presided. The lecture made a good impression, affording quite a contrast to the usual Government official style ; it being necessary to draw him out. Mr Hanlon would not pretend to know everything and then be found out to know nothing, as is the case with many Government officers. The question of the size of fruit boxes was brought up and the present box was shown to him and the quantity it would hold, and he thought it could not be improved upon. There were several matters of interest which the Lecturer explained to the satisfaction of the meeting, who returned him a hearty vote of thanks. Mr Hanlon was taken round the principal orchards by the energetic secretary of the Society, Mr L. P Beecroft, who takes great interest in doing anything to further the aim of the Society. The Rachel Cohen, topsail schooner, has nearly finished her loading for Melbourne, and expects ts - - r-n Saturday. Shs The three-masted eh . oner. Buster, arrived to-day, Wednesday, and has gone to the Company’s mill, Topuni, to load for a foreign port.
