ALBERTLAND FRUIT GROWERS’ ASSOCIATION.
The October meeting of the abovenamed association was held on Tuesday evening at the usual place of meeting, Mr J. W. C. Smith presiding. Correspondence had been received during the month by the secretary from Mr L. Hanlon, Government Pomologist, re Cocllin Moth Bill; J. Williamson and Co. re dressing of trees with lime water for destroying the larvae of the codlin moth when first deposited on the young fruit; and from the manager of the Aratapu Mills in reference to fruit cases. The meeting took into consideration the subject matter of each communication, and the secretary was instructed to acknowledge receipt of correspondence, also conveying the opinion of the meeting therewith. The members present decided to adopt the following sized fruit cases for the season 20in long by I7iu broad and 9in deep as the association fruit box. The secretary was instructed to arrange for the purchase of same. A paper was then given upon ‘The Drying of Fruit,’ which was followed by a practical discussion, eventuating in the mem bers co- operating in the pur chase of the materials required for making drying trays for next season’s operations. The ways and means of getting our fruit to market more expeditiously and cheaply than last season was considered by the meeting, and the secretary was author ised to write to the manager of the Northern Union Steamship Company to know what facilties they will offer the association in getting the fruit to Helensville. Considering this association represents fourfifths of the fruit exported from the district, it is to be hoped their wishes in the matter will be attended to. The subject for the November meeting will be “The Best Jlethods of Destroying the Codlin Moth.”
