MONGONUI COURT-HOUSE.
The new Court-house at Mongonui, is now all but completed. The site is right opposite the town wharf, and the design being ▼erv ornamental, and quite off the usual gable- ended design of Government buildings, presents an imposing appearance. It consists of one large hall, with bench for Magistrate, clerk’s bench, prisoner and witness boxes; a private room for Magistrate, and another for Clerk of Court and constable. Both these rooms contain a fire-place fitted with register grates, and the whole are lined with matched kauri boarding, and nicely varnished; between the ceiling and corrugated iron roof is a lining of Irish felting, for the purpose of deadening the sound. There are a number of patent ventilators fixed in position, and one half the front has a neat verandah. We understand the settlers had the choice of the Government expenditure of £3OO on a new Court-house or on roads, and the former received the benefit. — Luminary.
