The Wairoa Bell, AND Hobson County Gazette. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th .
VOTES FOR PUBLIC WORKS IK AUCKLAND. Ihe votes proposed for actual expenditure . during this y'ear, in tlio Auckland province, amount to about £IIB,OOO. The long neglected North seems to have received a fair amount of attention, although the votes appear to be very much more thickly scattered on the east side than on the west. The special works asked for by the Hobson County Council do not appear to have received much consideration for there is no vote for the Tangowahine bridge or for drainage works in the Tatarariki district. I lie Kailm Valley Railway is to receive £1543 and this may include the opening of the ballast pit for which the Council have been pressing, also station and goods shed at Opanake, The main road at Maunganui is to receive £IOO, and £2OO is set apart for Mangonui bridge. Opanake is down for £2OOO, which sum we presume is to be spent in the making of roads for opening up the Crown Lands in that locality, Maropiu is to get £SO for road works and Dargaville £2OO for a police station. The votes of Opua £6OO, Takahue £OOO, Kaitaia £2O, Kaeo £250, Opuawhanga £3OO, Kuapekapeka £3OO, Ahipara £2OO, Okaihau £2OO, Victoria Valley £350 etc,, show that the other portions of this electorate have not been forgotten by Ministers and Mr Houston.
