PAPAROA.

[from our own correspondent.] lam afraid my somewhat irregular contributions to the Wairoa Bell, “ few and far between ”as they are, hardly merit the free copies which the Editor forwards, and which reach me so regularly every Tuesday. Mine is the case of one who has “ too many irons in the fire,” my leisure time is fully taken up, and I regret that I cannot oftener contribute to your columns, chronicling the various events of interest which are now and again oecuring in this peaceful vale. It would appear that one of our young men is contemplating seriously the question of entering into tho married state. It certainly looks portentious when we see stacks of timber piled at the landing, awaiting the carpenter’s skill to be converted into a happy home for a couple whose engagement has for some time been an acknowledged fact in onr midst. Cupid, however, seems to have been shooting his darts in moie places than one; I have in my mind at present, two more couples who appear to have got matters fixed up satisfactorily. I forbear to mention names, but must lea\ r e your readers to speculate as to whom I refer, and when the weddings take place I shall have much pleasure in chronicling them. Meanwhile, let us p~ '.aim “ Advance Paparoa !” jn Wednesday next we are to have a novel entertainment in connection with the Paparoa Mutual Improvement Society. It will be a “Ladies’. Evening,” the programme is to be taken up .. almost wholly by lady members and their friends, and one of our energetic lady members is to preside, while another is to relieve the Secretary of his duties. But more anon. The committee of the North Kaipara Agricultural Society have apparently taken time by the forelock in connection with next season’s show. They have of late been holding meetings to arrange a schedule of articles for which prizes are to be offered. These are now printed and have been distributed, so that exhibitors have an abundance of time to prepare, and if they wish, can cultivate exhibits of farm produce for exhibition. The posters now issued are only ©f course “ preliminary ” and do not state the amount of prizes etc. Further posters announcing these and other, particulars will be issued later on. The date fixed is Wednesday, March Ist, 1893.

I notice with pleasure the enlargement in the Bell, and hope that still more improvements are to follow. I bring this budget of notes to a close by wishing great success to the Wairoa Bell and its editor.
