I heard some time since that be went to Wellington for that purpose and to crush a well known and popular civil servant who refused to truckle to the “ Great Mogul ” What is his claim to be called to the Upper House ? I know of none except that be is the best beaten man in the Colony. He left City West for good reasons, he was soundly beaten for Marsden, ■ nd in the late election for the Bay of Islands he was lowest on the poll out of four candidates being well beaten by John Lundon. In the county eloction his nominee (his talented son) got in by a mere fluke, and in .the Licensing election the same son was soundly beaten. After being beaten by a “Politician of the calibre and education of John Lundon, I don t wonder he funks facing the music again and is trying the back stairs. He ought to be well used to a beating by this time but be still takes it very unkindly. I heard after the Lieensing election he was vowing vengeance in the street on those who opposed his ‘ Bhoy,’ The man has completely lost the confidence of the county .and surely a ‘ Liberal ’ Government will not consider that entitles him to a seat in the TJtpt.. r House.
