MANGA WHARE MUD.
(To the Editor) Sir, —Can you tell tne who is directly responsible for the terrible quagmire which exists, almost the whole distance, between the Mangavvhare store and the Wesleyan church ? It is painful to witness the efforts of some of our ladies, when trying to negotiate the jumps, which are requisite for the preservation of a clean boot, and in fact sir, they seem to feel the tax upon their strength and patience to so great an extent, that most of them prefer to stay at home. The road is in areally disgraceful state, and it was only today I saw a dray and horse belonging to an energetic Councillor, stuck hard and fast, and requiring a great amount of force to remove it, (which eventually was done). I think it is high time that there was a footpath between Mangawhare and Dargaville, and am sure that a majority will bear me out in regard to the fact that the traffic, so far as pedestrians are concerned, warrants such. At present the subject under notice is more of a pitfall than anything else, especially after dark. That the Council will take some action in the matter is the sincere hope of —Yours etc., S'. W. Beale.
