ADVERTISING ENTERPRISE
A poor country congregation found itself badly in want of hymn-hooks. The clergyman applied to a London firm and asked to be supplied at the lowest (Church) rates. The firm repried that on condition the hymn-books contained certain advertisements the congregation should have them for notlisng. The minister sorrowfully eomplied, thioeing to himself that when the advertisements came they could be removed
fr >m the leaves. The hymn-books arrived and they contained no interleaved advertisements. At the thanksgiving services the parson gave out the Christmas hymn, and the congregation sang the first verse. When they reached the last line they found that this is what they had been singing : : Hark ! the herald angels sing, Dash’s Pills are just the thing ; Peace on earth aud mercy mild, Two for man and one for child.’
