TOKA TOKA .
It is my painful duty to state that Mr Norman McMillan died here, at the Toka hotel, on Saturday last, 29th May, after a brief illness of a week. He was suddenly seized with an attack of influenza, which merged into inflammation of the lungs. The deceased gentleman was a resident of Waipu but had been working in this district for the last six or seven years, during which period he had made himself one of the mast popular men in tho district. On Sunday last the body was taken on board the s.s. Kopuru and then proceeded to Point Curtis whence the body was to be conveyed to Waipu overland for interment in the Waipu cemetery. Deceased was a single man about 50 years of age. Four young men of the district had a very unpleasant experience whilst sattlc huntinglast week. Their unwary footsteps led them into the dismal depths of akahikatea swamp where, after several hours hard work, breaking through tangled undergrowth knee-deep in ice-cold stagnant water, they had to pass the night huddle! together round the roots of a kahikatea tree, wet, tired, and hungry. Next morning, after the fog had cleared off they at once struck for home where they ari'ived at noon.
