BACHELORS’ BALL , TOKATOKA.

[from ottr own correspondent]. The Toka Toka Bachelors’ Ball came off on Tuesday last (Queen’s Birthday) and was unanimously voted a complete success. The Novelty Hall ifi which it was held, was tastefully decorated with evergreens, flowers, Chinese lanterns, and flags, and on the drop scene on the stage appeared the motto ‘ The Queen, God bless her,’ neatly worked in puriri leaves. The whole making up an effect of artistic beauty, which only needed the happy faces and bright dresses of the young ladies to be perfect. There were just enough dancers to fill the room without discomfort, and as the floor was like a sheet of polished glass, it need not cause surprise when I state that there were forty-six dances danced between 8 p.m. and daylight. As to who was belle ? well, I simply don’t care to venture an opinion. Excellent music was supplied by Messrs Melville, McMillan, Sullivan, Johnson, Sly and Clark, (violin, accordion, concertina and piano ) in this instance the commissariat proved more than equal to all demands and a large quantity of refreshments was left over, which reflects great credit on the determination of the committee to make this, the first of its kind in Toka Toka, a complete success in every department.
