The Wairoa Bell, AND Hobson County Gazette. THURSDAY, APRIL 1 4 th.
We thank Air Sheffield for his proffered defence of us against the slanders of our contemporary and ins parasites, but we are content to leave the punishment of such to a higher Pom.. We invite a close inspection of our past career and are not afraid of the mud sticking. The public opinion of our contemporary’s truth and honesty is on a very low ebb as can be seen by reference to the testimonial to Dr Norton published some time ago in our columns, ami also by the one wuich today appears in our advertising columns, and in wuich the members of Court Northern Wairoa, A.O.F. testify to their appreciation of Dr, Norton's skill and attention. We admire the Christian spirit displayed by Mr Sheffield in taking up the eudo-els for us without seeking to hide himself under a nom'de plume, but we have really a great deal to be thankful to our contemporary for—he has been the means oftnrnin** a "Y, o( p many shillings in our way, W e have to thank him this week for new subscribers and a fine advertisement, Jas well as many items in the past,
