ARAPOHUE LEAP YEAR PALL

The Arapohue Leap Year Ball passed off last Friday evening in such a successful manner that the hearts of the promoters must have literally leaped with delight There were fully two hundred persons present and there was no room to spare. People from all parts of the district were in attendance. The floor was in splendid older for dancing and there was an entire absence of exclusiveness so that all seemed quite at home and happy. The Indies took great interest in seeking out partners ; the County Chairman Vicing a special attraction in some quarters—and he stood it like a lamb, or perhaps we should have said a dear. Some gentlemen were nt first inclined to be impatient and not content with waiting to be asked, but we think it must be confessed that the ladies were very attentive and wall-flowers out of season. Music was supplied by Messrs T. French, J . Lindsay, Jamieson and Edmonds, and gave satisfaction. The refreshments were there in quantity and quality, the only drawback being the want of more room to get at them ; every attention was however paid to the wants of all. The whole affair was a magnificent success, equal to anything of a like nature which the district has ye* seen. Five waggons were at the disposal of visitors to convey them to and from the wharf. W e learn that there was a difference of opinion as to who was beau ; one young gentleman was handsome and well got up but he was not a good dancer, whilst another was a splendid dancer and » good figure but his face spoilt him. We have not yetreceived our 4 Lady correspondent’s 5 dictum and we take this opportunity of informing her that the young men are very anxious to hear what she has to say. We must not forget to mention that the Misses B. and N. Bradley made most efficient M’sC and Mrs W. Webb an excellent secretary. Mr Harding and Mr Deniiin congratulated the ladies on the success of their ball.
