THE MANGAKAHIA.
‘The Northern Advocate’ says : The Government, Surveyor, Mr Wright, who has charge of the reading of the Mangalcabia block, after having made a cursoryinspection of the. lie of the county, proceeded to Auckland, on Thursday, to consult with the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr Mueller. It is proposed to open two main roads o-iving access to the block, one from the end of the Ktiihu Valley Kailway by the Waima Valley, and the other by way of Purua or Poroli into Whangarei. From the church, at Mangakahia, which is about the centre of the block, it is 2i miles to the Kaihu Valley Railway The church is 10 miles from Hunter’s store, and the latter place is about 20 miles from Wangarei. There is no guestion as to the route ot the road connecting with the Kaihu Valley Railway, but on tnis side llieic is the question of two routes to be decided. The Purua route is longer, but there would be a shorter length of road to make, it would be through Crown Land, and the Waima is already bridged. Bv the Poroti route, which is "the shorter of the two, a greater length of road would have to be made, and it would be largely through native land, and the Waima would have t® he bridged. These are the points, we believe, which affect the selection of route.
