Our Maropiu correspondent writes:—“A meeting for all those interested in Football was held at Opanake on Saturday last, April 2nd. There was a large attendance. The chief business of the evening* was to decide whether this district could sendforth two teams to the fray, (as pre- i viously) or whether it was advisable to combine the forces of the Opanake and Maropiu teams. After a lively kotero , in which the matter was thoroughly thrashed out, it was unanimously resolved to amalgamate the two teams. Some lit tle discussion arose over the name for the team, the Maropiu boys holding out that it should he known as * Maropiu E. C.’ ; and others stating that ‘ Kailm ’ would he more appropriate. Eventually it was decided to retain the name of 4 Maropiu,’ The subscription for membership was fixed at 2s 6d, with a small monthly levy oil the /'layers to keep the Club in funds. Our reran*tor gives us F. Mollov and C. Matthews as the pick of the field. The Aratapn Club played a scratch match ou their ground with eleven a side. Mon Lon secured two tries and Vvoollams and E. Phelan one each. Woollams, a new player, is shaping well for •• place among the Club reps Most of the j\ ucklaud Clubs have now held tlicir Annual meetings and play will shortly start in earnest. The s oring in the closing English season has been reckoned as follows : - Try 2 points, goal from try 3 points morn, goal from penalty kick 3 points, auv oilier goal t points. Clubs are notified that a mec ing of the N. TVairoa Rugby Union will be hold at -Aratapn on Wednesday evening next. It is hoped that each Club will bo fully represented.
