RACING AT TRENTHAM

EPIC ST. LEGER STRUGGLE. RAILWAY TO SHIBLEY. REREMOANA WINS THOMPSON. The feature cf the opening day of the Trentham races was the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes, in which Mr. W. R. Kemball’s plucky three-year-old Hynanna, forced the crack Commendation to run an Australasian record, lowering Duo's Trentliam time of 2min 57 4-ssec., established in the same race in 1921, to 2min 57|sec. Commendation had a length to spare at the end of the journey. The only other starter Magma Charta, was outclassed, being twenty lengths further back. Gascony, by the defunct King John, lowered Lysander's colours in the Challenge Stakes, Reremona beat Joy King in the Thompson Handicap, and Shirley won the Railway Handicap from Benzora.
