EMPIRE STATUS.
BRITAIN AND DOMINIONS
CO-EQUAL.
LONDON, March 15.
In the House of Commons, in Committee’bn the'Royal and Parliamentary Title Bill, Sir J. A. Marriott (C) moved to substittrte the words ‘‘United Kingdom ’’ * for “ realm ’ ’ in the title of the Great Seal.
The Home Secretary (Sir W. Joyn-son-Hicks) pointed out that it was His Majesty’s Seal, and not the United Kingdom’s or Parliament’s. The title of the Seal depended on the King’s title. The position was different from two centuries, or even from twenty years ago. There was now no “Dominions thereto belonging.” It was a certainty since the last Imperial Conference that the Dominions were coequal with the United Kingdom. They did not belong to that Parliament, and were in no wise subject to its jurisdiction.
The amendment was withdrawn, and the Bill passed Committee and its third reading.—(A. and N-Z.Z).
